On this page you can see some of my older VWs. I had a great little '61 VW but the high winds during November in the Cascades can be very destructive. Unfortunately for me the car was destroyed by a tree on November 12, 2007. I was lucky to get out alive. I have a 1963 Ragtop, 1970 Camper Van, 1973 Camper Van, a 1971 Type I, and a 1978 Van. Also below are pictures of all my VWs and a 1947 Ford Tractor, An 8N
My oldest VW was a 1961 Standard Type I. It was crushed by a tree while I was driving into town trying to get away from the high winds one November. I thought that a tree would fall and leave me without power so I grabbed some clothes and left my cabin. It turns out to be bad timing on my part. A tree almost killed me and completely destroyed my prized little bug.
About six months later I found the '63 ragtop sitting in a hoop style greenhouse, it had been sitting there for the last five (5) years. The owner heard that my 61' was crushed and offered to part with this one. It was the same color, only this one had a canvas ragtop!
The orange Van (I call her "Freida" is a 1978 Type II. The picture is shown above has an interesting story behind it. I saw it sitting in a storage yard for a year and asked about it when I heard that he finally got the title to it. It turns out that this non-running van just needed some TLC. The ignition was apart and the vacumn hoses were disconnected. Finally, everything came together and with a new tank of fresh gas it started. Roughtly at first and now runs fine! I was not impressed with the auto tranny but now have adjusted to it and find it to be fun to drive. I am going to clean it up and outfit it with camping gear. Maybe even a new paint job!
